Everyone at the school is delighted that students have achieved a truly amazing set of A Level and L3 qualifications today. The average grade for all students was a B, students have a 100% pass rate overall, and 22% of students have achieved all A* to A grades. These headline figures are reflective of all the young people’s hard work over the course of their time here, but as always what's most important is that students can move on to their destinations of choice. 

The Head of 6th Form at the school, Mrs King said: 

“We are delighted to celebrate the significant achievements of our Year 13 students today. Their outstanding results are a reflection not only of their academic ability and high aspirations, but also of the commitment, determination and resilience they have shown throughout what is undoubtedly an intense and demanding period of their lives. 

We have watched with immense pride as students have embraced challenges, persevered in the face of setbacks, and supported one another on their journey towards achieving their goals. Seeing their efforts come to fruition is incredibly rewarding for the Sixth Form team and subject teachers. Our students should be extremely proud of everything they have achieved. 

We would also like to thank parents and carers for their unwavering support, which has played a vital role in helping our students reach this important milestone. 

As they move on to a wide range of exciting opportunities, we wish our students every success for the future. We are confident they will continue to thrive and make a positive impact wherever their next steps take them.” 

In terms of those choosing to go to university, we have students leaving us today to study the following: 

  • History & Politics at Cambridge 

  • Maths and Computer Science at Warwick 

  • English Literature at UCL 

  • Geology at UCL 

  • Law at York 

  • Maths at Manchester 

  • Cardiac Physiology at Sunderland 

  • Music at BIMM Music Institute 

  • Geography at Newcastle 

  • Foreign Languages at Newcastle 

In addition, some 14% of our students will be going to Durham University to study a range of courses including Law, Liberal Arts, Primary Education, Geography, Psychology and Sociology. It’s great that so many talented young people will continue to study here in the Northeast, making the most of our access to a world class university. In total, 40% of students collecting results today will be going to Russel Group universities. 

More students than ever before from the 6th Form are also accessing Higher Level Apprenticeships in areas such as local governance, finance and civil engineering. Seeing students move with confidence into these areas speaks not just of their hard work and ambition but also of their quiet self-assurance in knowing what they want to do. 

The new Prime Minister recently said that this country should “value the hard hat every bit as much as the graduation cap.” At Framwellgate School Durham we always have, and indeed no aspiration is better than another, no next steps for any 18-year-old child better than someone else’s. What’s truly important is that young people leave us with an education that allows them to choose, to be masters of their destiny and move on to what’s right for them. It is truly brilliant that for so many of our young people they’ve achieved the grades today that will allow them to do precisely that. This is why we're so proud of all our students today.

We thank all our staff for their help and support for these students, all the parents and carers who’ve worked with the school to help support their children and most importantly pay tribute to the hard work so many of them have done to get them here today. 

Finally, in a message to the students who in theory leave us today, always remember that we’re still here, you’ll always be our students, and just because you’ve left doesn’t mean you can’t contact us to ask for advice and support if that’s what you need.

Jamie with his D*,D,D in BTEC Sport who is off to complete a Higher Level Apprenticeship in Golf Management at Ramside Hall here in Durham.

Leon with three A* grades will be studying Geography at Durham.

Jiaqi with A*, A*, A will be joining Mia at UCL to study English Literature.

Emily has achieved A*,A*,A and is going to Durham to study Law.

Izzy has achieved 3 B grades and will now be going to Sunderland to study Cardio Physiology.

Chloe achieved A*, B, B and will be going to Durham to study Sociology and Criminology.
